Wilma contracts polio in the 1940’s and her left leg is left paralyzed. She went on at age twenty to be the first American woman to win three gold medals at a single Olympics. Great book and great woman!

Life by the Cup
Having started reading biographies and memoirs, I’m grateful this was one of the first. I’ve read others along the way, yet I’ve a different reason for reading them now.
I deeply enjoyed this journey with Zhena as she transformed her life and allowed it to blossom from her gypsy roots and heritage into a passion for organic, fair trade tea. Deepened with her own spiritual insights rolled into her life like the tea leaves she dearly loves.
I have a new and stronger appreciation for tea and those who grow it and cultivate the leaves. I’m grateful to Zhena for the beautiful way in which she wrote about the tea leaves and the mixture of flowers, fruits, and essential oils. xoxo

The House That Jane Built – A Story About Jane Addams
Thomas and I were incredibly moved reading about an 1889 settlement home that Jane Addams founded in a run-down Chicago neighborhood, Hull House.
It was a place were people could find food, work, and community and included a playground, kindergarten, and a public bath. By 1907, Hull House included thirteen buildings and by the early 1920s, more than nine thousand people visited each week.
Jane Addams died in 1935 at 74. The programs at Hull House ran through 2012.
There’s much more to know about Addams; yet this book was specifically about Hull House. She spoke out against war and was a peace activist. She co-founded the Woman’s Peace Party.
The FBI kept a file on her, and she was called “the most dangerous woman in America.” In 1931, she became the first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She was a founding member of the NAACP and ACLU.

A wonderful book about prayer. I really enjoyed learning the author’s view.
” …. the ocean is in the wave. The wave is nothing more nor less than the ocean expressing as a wave.”
And one of my favorite quotes from Thoreau is in the book too …
