Chad Basil the First Update – Three Months

March 12 2022

Chad Basil the First update. Basil has been with us for three months now.

He has completely abandoned his original safe space under Thomas’s bed.

His favorite toys are his bouncy rubber balls, and his new play mat. He probably has more bouncy balls than any cat ever.

He loves his water fountain (definitely drinking lots of water now), and bird watching.
He even helped with the vacuuming. 🤣😂🤣 And has the cutest paws! 🐾

Basil is finally purring, kneading, and giving love bites and licks. We still can’t pick him up. I’m betting by the next update or two, that may have changed.

Lillian has begun to cat proof her room so that Basil can explore, as he’s not been allowed in her room. She still hasn’t touched him, but enjoys watching him play, and takes lots of photos of him.

We tried to put his collar on him. He lost his spine, turning into a wet noodle flipping and flopping, over and over, until he eventually got the collar caught in his mouth! 😱 Took us a while to get him calm, and to trust Thomas to cut it off. I think we’ll wait a while before trying that again.

Please enjoy this rather large photo dump of Basil, plus two short videos. 🤣😂🤣

Basil is in competition with my nature photographs, to see which I have the most of on my phone.

We love Basil. Thank you to Thomas for being persistent with his requests for a cat, and for choosing Chad Basil the First. ❤️❤️❤️ Thomas is doing a great job at being Basil’s caretaker. He takes care of the food, water, and litter box. And I get to spoil Basil. Perfect!

Feels So Good With a Broken Mug

January 27 2022

There’s just something about getting a haircut and style. It’s freeing, a lightening, a releasing of the past. It’s been over a year since my last cut. Feels so good.

February 22 2022

The coffee-filled mug did not survive this morning’s zoomie-playing-with-a-bouncy-ball session. 😳😭😳

Interestingly, Basil lost his case of zoomies after the loud crashing noise, with splattering of coffee across the room. Moving onto loafing on my bed.

Chad Basil the First – Two Month Update

February 12 2022

Chad Basil the First update. Basil has been with us for two months now.

He has nearly abandoned his safe space under Thomas’s bed, still returning there for his long afternoon nap. 😂

We’re learning his favorite things to play with, a small spiky rubber ball, little puff balls, and the assortment of foam balls Thomas and Lillian have collected over the years from birthday parties. I knew we were saving those for some reason. It’s pretty hilarious watching him toss the balls around, attacking them, with his back arched, and tail fluffed out. He loves playing with them on the stairs.

Basil enjoys jumping onto my bed, and the rocking chair to lounge in the sun. He’s finally discovering he can jump!

We finally got to hear him meow, as he’s been silent since we brought him home (except for the yowling the first 3 nights)! 😱 He meows to Thomas when he wants to be fed. It’s very quiet, and sometimes only a half meow.

Basil finally let’s us touch him. But, only when he’s half asleep, just waking up from a nap. 👏👏👏 He loves watching cat videos on our movie wall. Birds are his favorite so far.

Thomas is disappointed that Basil is spending less time in his room now. Hopefully, he’ll make his way back in there once he’s done exploring, and hanging out elsewhere. **Adding for those who don’t know – Basil is Thomas’s cat, adopted from the Humane Society.**

Lillian and Basil are steering clear of each other. He wants to explore her room so badly! 🤣 They are slowly warming up to each other.

We love him!! ❤️🥰❤️

Chad Basil the First Update – A Month and a Half

January 22 2022

Chad Basil the First update. Basil has been with us a month and a half now. 🤍🐈‍⬛🤍

He’s leaving the safety underneath Thomas’s bed more, exploring more of his new home. His litter box and food are now out of Thomas’s room. Basil knows that’s still his safe space though.

He likes to play with the wand toy, and will play with me now. He’s still not ready to be touched, giving us lots of laughs. I was playing with Basil. He landed on my slippers, jumped up and hissed at my slippers. 😂🤣😂

Love when he hides under my bed. 😂🤣😂 See photo of a Basil tail. I’ve had to send him to his room a couple of nights, as that’s when he wants to explore and make noise, waking me up.

Just this past week, he got the courage to jump. Up until then he had not left the floor! He’s discovered Thomas’s window sill, and the birds feeding at the bird feeder.

For about an hour last night, he slept on Thomas’s desk. First time he’s slept anywhere other than under Thomas’s bed. 👏👏👏

Basil had his first case of the zoomies last night, too. At the same time I was going to bed. He nearly got sent to his room. 😂😳😂

Adopting a Furry Companion for Thomas

December 10 2021

Thomas found his new companion. A sweet, mellow boy. Thomas has been in need of an emotional support pet, having been diagnosed with depression. I’m so happy we are finally making this happen. ❤️❤️❤️

This is an incredibly delicate situation. Lillian has a fear of cats and is not at all pleased with this decision.

I spent hours talking with her last night, and about an hour just now. Which is actually an improvement. We talked about it rather than her having a full blown meltdown; which is what happened when I told her about a month ago! I feel in the end this is a positive as it helps her to confront her fear.

This is why I have been distracted for the past month. Times like this are what make parenting heart achingly difficult. Needing to do something beneficial for one child, that is something the other child is against. My brain and heart have been in a vice. ❤️💔❤️
