Throwback Post: Help Them Realize Their Worth

**THROWBACK POST**

October 20 2012:

Last week I engaged in a conversation with another Mom. She shared she’s feeling stuck, not knowing what her passion is. She knows what she’s good at but is lacking in feeling the passion and purpose of her life. I got the feeling she knows what her passion is but is fighting going with it and I also sensed she doesn’t fully accept her worth and what she has to offer. So many of us were raised not being taught that we are worthy and we have a gift and a purpose to share with society. Money seemed to be put at the top of the priority list instead of doing what was our passion to make that money. Yes, we’ve got to have money to house, feed, and clothe ourselves and our families. Why on Earth is it frowned upon to use talents we have been gifted with and things we are passionate about to earn that money?

I shared my thoughts that maybe she would want to use what she’s good at to help other women realize their worth, to help make them feel good about themselves. We chatted for 30 minutes about this, parenting, being in the present moment with our kids and the difference in their behavior and attitude when we are present for them. We seemed to be in our own little bubble, oblivious to the other people in the room with us and all that was going on. When we parted she thanked me and we gave each other a nice warm hug.

Hopefully, our time chatting together helped her, even if it’s only a small little ole shift! I know I benefitted from our talk. I understand more that it doesn’t matter what your talents, gifts, and passions are. You can use them to benefit society …

We added chocolate chips for the second batch of pumpkin pie cookies. YUM!

In the kitchen experimenting with turmeric root, tamarind, and lemon juice. Let’s see how this turns out. I don’t know that I’ve ever tasted tamarind until yesterday. Pretty good and never would have guessed it’s a legume! Plus I got the entire box free yesterday. I asked a produce worker where to find it. When we located it, it was the last box and a couple of the pods were broken … so he gave me the entire 1 pound box free. YAY!!

Lillian was teasing Thomas last Wednesday night. He came to me and said he felt like hitting her and asked what he should do. I told him to take a deep breath and flood his heart with love from something or a time that brought him happiness. Told him both feelings couldn’t be in there at the same time. He came back a few minutes later and told me thank you and it worked. I love getting to be a teacher and student with these two awesome souls! xoxo

******************************

Thomas is all ready to turn in his Mark Twain project …. Complete with a Lego replica of a steamboat and the home that Mark Twain built! He had so much fun doing this!

Lillian’s Helen Keller project is ready for tomorrow. I packed it all in a bag and had her take everything out and set it up by herself. GREAT job Lillian! You go!

Happy Holidays from The Chromosome 18 Registry

December 24 2023

I always love the Chromosome 18 card. Check out the quote on the back of this year’s card. ❤️💚❤️

“The journey from Lillian being diagnosed at 3-years-old to where we are now at 22-years-old would have been immeasurably more difficult and lonely if not for The Chromosome 18 Registry & Research Society. The Registry has blessed our entire family with critical information, research updates, hope, fun, friendships, and the family we never knew we needed.”
