Chad Basil the First – Where Are All the Balls?

September 3 2022

Chad Basil the First update! He continues to get more comfortable with his home, and us.

I bought a bag of 100 rubber balls for Basil last November. We only have about 5 left. Where are the balls? 😂 I have a feeling there are many under the fridge, stove, and corners of the couch that can’t be easily reached.

Basil has decided he loves to be petted, scratched, and stroked. He actively comes over and “asks” for some lovin’. He still does not want to sit with us or on our laps, but I have a feeling that one day he will decide he wants to give it a try. He does let me give him kisses now, as this used to freak him out. Maybe he thought I was going to eat him. 😆😂😆

In short, Basil is absolutely adorable.

Chad Basil the First Update – A Month and a Half

January 22 2022

Chad Basil the First update. Basil has been with us a month and a half now. 🤍🐈‍⬛🤍

He’s leaving the safety underneath Thomas’s bed more, exploring more of his new home. His litter box and food are now out of Thomas’s room. Basil knows that’s still his safe space though.

He likes to play with the wand toy, and will play with me now. He’s still not ready to be touched, giving us lots of laughs. I was playing with Basil. He landed on my slippers, jumped up and hissed at my slippers. 😂🤣😂

Love when he hides under my bed. 😂🤣😂 See photo of a Basil tail. I’ve had to send him to his room a couple of nights, as that’s when he wants to explore and make noise, waking me up.

Just this past week, he got the courage to jump. Up until then he had not left the floor! He’s discovered Thomas’s window sill, and the birds feeding at the bird feeder.

For about an hour last night, he slept on Thomas’s desk. First time he’s slept anywhere other than under Thomas’s bed. 👏👏👏

Basil had his first case of the zoomies last night, too. At the same time I was going to bed. He nearly got sent to his room. 😂😳😂

Slow Going with Basil

December 25 2021

Basil has been with us two weeks now. ❤️ He’s leaving his safe space underneath the bed more often. He comes out to just relax, or play with his toys with Thomas. But if Thomas moves, he’s straight back under the bed. Definitely still hides if he catches site of me.

Thomas left his door open one night this past week. I woke to suspicious signs that someone had been snooping around the tree. One ornament off the tree, and one gift knocked over. Good signs that Basil is getting more comfortable, trusting, and feeling safe.

Slow going. Yet, we’ll get there. It’s actually good that it is slow going, as it’s giving Lillian the opportunity to get used to knowing Basil is here, even if hidden. I’m concerned that Basil won’t warm up to Thomas, or any of us. It seems to be moving slower than a snail’s pace.

Chad Basil the First – Welcome to the Team TLC Family

December 21 2021

Isn’t he the cutest??!! Basil has finally started to venture from under Thomas’s bed. I told Thomas he has to take a photo of him every day until I can see him in person. 🤣😂🤣

Basil has been with us for one week now. He’s finally relaxing a little, not yet ready to leave Thomas’s room. I love his little white mustache and white toes. His full name is Chad Basil the First. 😂 We call him Basil.

You wouldn’t dare to think that he yowled for 3 nights straight in a row with that cute lil face, would you?? No, not him! Thank goodness we figured out the issue …. He wanted under Thomas’s bed.

Adopting a Furry Companion for Thomas

December 10 2021

Thomas found his new companion. A sweet, mellow boy. Thomas has been in need of an emotional support pet, having been diagnosed with depression. I’m so happy we are finally making this happen. ❤️❤️❤️

This is an incredibly delicate situation. Lillian has a fear of cats and is not at all pleased with this decision.

I spent hours talking with her last night, and about an hour just now. Which is actually an improvement. We talked about it rather than her having a full blown meltdown; which is what happened when I told her about a month ago! I feel in the end this is a positive as it helps her to confront her fear.

This is why I have been distracted for the past month. Times like this are what make parenting heart achingly difficult. Needing to do something beneficial for one child, that is something the other child is against. My brain and heart have been in a vice. ❤️💔❤️

Lion in a Cat Body Followed by The Colony

September 9 2021

Just back from volunteering at the Humane Society. Check out the face of the first cat. I just could not stop looking at her, and thinking that is a freakin’ lion in a cats body! It felt like she wanted to rip our heads off! 😂🤣😂 To be fair, she has reason to look stern, as she is just there temporarily as part of the fire evacuations. (Editing to add: She is NOT available for adoption. She is just there temporarily due to fire evacuations.)

Thomas and I both wanted to bring home the cat in the last three photos. He was a sweetheart, just having arrived yesterday. He won’t be there long.

September 9 2021

Thomas loves this little theater, and was excited to see a play after not having been for well over a year.

Beautiful Cats and Basketball With a Nighttime Swim

July 9 2021

Thomas and I volunteered this afternoon. My gosh. There are some beautiful, sweet cats at the shelter currently.

The cat below was Thomas’s favorite. An old dude, 10 years old. My heart melts at how he is fond of the older cats. xoxo

July 15 2021

Tonight it was basketball for me and Thomas, and then a nighttime swim for me. It’s rare that the pool is empty in the evening. I just had to take advantage of it. Felt so good!

Nevada Humane Society – Volunteering with the Cats

June 22 2021

We volunteered at The Humane Society yesterday. First time in nearly two years. This volunteer gig is driven solely by Thomas Darnell. I’m just his assistant as he’s not of the required age to be there on his own.

He was 12 when we went through the training (for cats). He’s 15 now, and has wanted a cat since about 10 years old. He’s very fond of the older cats, not caring much for the kittens.

Volunteering with Treats

October 7 2019:

Thomas and I volunteered at The Humane Society this morning. Helped decorate for Halloween and visited the cats a bit. Thomas took the photo of the sleeping cat.

October 12 2019:

Afternoon treat courtesy of my mom. She brought treats when she picked up Lillian for respite on Wednesday! Vegan Neapolitan cupcake! Yum!
