There’s Nothing Wrong Here and Salsa and Twigs and Branches

March 27 2018:

Uh-oh! What?

This is how I found Ms. Yonce this afternoon when getting her for a walk. She was like, “YAY!! You’re here! Let’s go walk. There’s nothing wrong here.”

Then she grabbed that gigantic blue ball and held it in her mouth for the entire walk! She is so darn cute!!

Dean Martin Got His Foot Stuck in the Cement

**THROWBACK POST**

December 28 2012:

What does Dean Martin have to do with this yummy dinner?

We’re at The Romano Casa for dinner and learned from the curator, Frank Romano, that as a young man he worked at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Frank was working the night Dean Martin came to make his footprint. Mr. Martin had been drinking a bit and his foot got stuck in the cement. Frank had to help him get his foot and shoe out of the cement. There ya go!

I Never Imagined It Would Be So Fun

**THROWBACK POST**

December 19 2013:

“I never imagined it would be so much fun. It was the best night of my life!” -Thomas …

HDMS Multicultural night was a blast! I got to help serve the awesome array of South American dishes brought in by the families of Candelaria students. Thomas was super excited to perform the Happy Dance with his classmates. He said he was so happy he almost cried. All performances were amazing! We got to travel to South America, Asia, ancient Egypt, The Renaissance, The Galapagos Islands, and Meso-America .. Mayan, Inca and Aztecs …

Such wonderful people!

Who Likes Socks

March 19 2018:

Thomas wants to know if he’s the only one that doesn’t like socks? Most times he wears them inside out …

None of us like socks! The seam is a big issue and that’s why he wears them inside out. After 40+ years, I finally caught on too, and wear some of mine inside out to get away from that seam! Seriously. We went for a walk this afternoon and he wore flip flops because he dreaded putting socks on (and there are piles of snow still around)! HA!

Seemed like he was always running around with one sock on when he was younger! I even have pictures! I asked him one time why he did that and he said “Cause it feels good” … Okay then!! xoxo

Thomas has big time sensory issues and can’t take how restrictive and tight they are, not to mention the crazy seam. Most times he just wears them inside out to get away from the seam. Yet, he still finds them uncomfortable.

I’m with him. I’ve taken to turning some of mine inside out too. I’d much rather just go barefoot and ditch shoes and socks altogether! As it is I only own a few pairs of shoes. I stand for Toe and Foot Freedom ….. !!! HA! xoxo

One of the first things we do when stepping inside. Take them shoes and socks off!! We ain’t got no time for that discomfort!!!

He’s just got big time sensory issues. Seams in all clothing and tags too. Thank goodness tagless shirts are abundant these days!

It’s not just with seams in socks. He can’t stand it if they are too tight also. And, absolutely no jean material or restrictive pants. He will only wear the gym type pants and shorts.

Lillian wears her snow boots without socks!! She can’t stand the way it feels with socks on!)

I prefer the barefoot type shoes that let you feel and connect with the earth. I have a pair of sandals like this and hope to soon get a pair of no sole moccasins and a pair of barefoot shoes meant for cooler wet weather. They are spendy. But worth it to not be restricted by these horribly designed and made shoes!!

Heel toe walking is getting so much better! For the past 7 months Lillian has been practicing on the treadmill at the lodge.

She goes over once a week and stays for about an hour to three hours to practice independence. I get a wee respite and she gets to practice being independent.

She started at about 5 minutes going at a very slow speed. She’s now up to 7 minutes and the speed has increased.

Wahooo!! Next step for independence practice is the library without me there!

The Museum of Hand Made Stuff

**THROWBACK POST**

December 26 2012:

I’m a blessed woman y’all! I got to do something very special today. I visited the Museum of Hand Made Stuff ….

Awesome Creativity. Got a really cool brochure detailing the items and they were all labeled in the Museum.

Later, I attended a one of kind show called the Lillian P. Darnell and Thomas A. Darnell Show. The lights were dimmed and I was treated to some cool interpretive dancing!

Team Member T & L have had a day full of letting their creativity and imagination have a ball!

Do YOU Like YOU

**THROWBACK POST**

December 15 2012:

Thomas is struggling with this right now. At least once a week, he says so and so doesn’t like him, or he has no friends or no one likes him ….

My response is, “Do you like you?” Question for all y’all … Do YOU like YOU? Once we like ourselves it spreads like a ripple.

We must teach and help our kids have a healthy self esteem and I say this knowing that sometimes I fail at doing this.

That Customer Just Needs Some Love

**THROWBACK POST**

December 22 2012:

Y’all don’t forget that the customers can hear inside the bank when you are outside using the drive through!! No worries … this is a FEEL GOOD post.

I was in the bank yesterday and overheard a customer being grumpy about having to show her driver’s license to cash a check as the teller was new and didn’t know her yet. I smiled at the young lady helping me and said “That customer just needs some love and kindness.”

The bank employee helping Ms. Grumpy continued to be kind and apologize for the inconvenience. Ms. Grumpy sent over her DL and the teller cashed her check. When the teller sent the money out, Ms. Grumpy apologized for being grumpy. The two chatted happily about what each of them were cooking for the holidays and off Ms. Grumpy went .. EXCEPT, she had left behind Ms. Grumpy and drove away Ms. HappY …

I looked at the teller helping me and said, “See, she just needed some love.” I left HappY and both tellers were happy and smiling too!
