Chad Basil the First Update – Three Months

March 12 2022

Chad Basil the First update. Basil has been with us for three months now.

He has completely abandoned his original safe space under Thomas’s bed.

His favorite toys are his bouncy rubber balls, and his new play mat. He probably has more bouncy balls than any cat ever.

He loves his water fountain (definitely drinking lots of water now), and bird watching.
He even helped with the vacuuming. 🤣😂🤣 And has the cutest paws! 🐾

Basil is finally purring, kneading, and giving love bites and licks. We still can’t pick him up. I’m betting by the next update or two, that may have changed.

Lillian has begun to cat proof her room so that Basil can explore, as he’s not been allowed in her room. She still hasn’t touched him, but enjoys watching him play, and takes lots of photos of him.

We tried to put his collar on him. He lost his spine, turning into a wet noodle flipping and flopping, over and over, until he eventually got the collar caught in his mouth! 😱 Took us a while to get him calm, and to trust Thomas to cut it off. I think we’ll wait a while before trying that again.

Please enjoy this rather large photo dump of Basil, plus two short videos. 🤣😂🤣

Basil is in competition with my nature photographs, to see which I have the most of on my phone.

We love Basil. Thank you to Thomas for being persistent with his requests for a cat, and for choosing Chad Basil the First. ❤️❤️❤️ Thomas is doing a great job at being Basil’s caretaker. He takes care of the food, water, and litter box. And I get to spoil Basil. Perfect!

Throwback Post: A Big Chunk of My Heart

**THROWBACK POST**

August 10 2014:

Just put a big chunk of my heart onto a plane headed to Seattle. Some opportunities for learning are so challenging (learning opportunity for me as Thomas is going to visit his Dad and his Dad’s family).

I choose to be grateful for this chance to learn that Thomas is a sovereign individual and he will be just fine amongst those who don’t share my philosophies, our style of living and who don’t think very highly of me.

I’ll be back to retrieve that chunk of my heart on Thursday. I’ve wrapped that entire plane with so much love and blessings, I know everyone on the plane will have a great flight! xoxo

His skill at not being easily influenced is being heavily tested as is my ability to let it be ….

As unpleasant as it is, I’d prefer him be exposed to some adverse circumstances now while he is still young and respects what I share and teach. This is a good lesson for him in opposing views, teasing, criticism and confusion. He’s getting a full meal deal! He told me last night he’s ready to come home. Hopefully, he and I will process all this in a healthy way and allow us to expand and grow! Hugs to all y’all!

Hung out all day with the girl in yellow … Read, ate dinner, played UNO and went for a walk. Got to Skype with Thomas and read our bedtime book via Skype too! Great day!

Spring 2014 …. Walk without Thomas … Miss that young man … and this life lesson can hurry up and be over. Is it Thursday yet? Connecting with some not so fun emotions. This calls for some heavy duty spreading of love tomorrow!

Chad Basil the First – Two Month Update

February 12 2022

Chad Basil the First update. Basil has been with us for two months now.

He has nearly abandoned his safe space under Thomas’s bed, still returning there for his long afternoon nap. 😂

We’re learning his favorite things to play with, a small spiky rubber ball, little puff balls, and the assortment of foam balls Thomas and Lillian have collected over the years from birthday parties. I knew we were saving those for some reason. It’s pretty hilarious watching him toss the balls around, attacking them, with his back arched, and tail fluffed out. He loves playing with them on the stairs.

Basil enjoys jumping onto my bed, and the rocking chair to lounge in the sun. He’s finally discovering he can jump!

We finally got to hear him meow, as he’s been silent since we brought him home (except for the yowling the first 3 nights)! 😱 He meows to Thomas when he wants to be fed. It’s very quiet, and sometimes only a half meow.

Basil finally let’s us touch him. But, only when he’s half asleep, just waking up from a nap. 👏👏👏 He loves watching cat videos on our movie wall. Birds are his favorite so far.

Thomas is disappointed that Basil is spending less time in his room now. Hopefully, he’ll make his way back in there once he’s done exploring, and hanging out elsewhere. **Adding for those who don’t know – Basil is Thomas’s cat, adopted from the Humane Society.**

Lillian and Basil are steering clear of each other. He wants to explore her room so badly! 🤣 They are slowly warming up to each other.

We love him!! ❤️🥰❤️

Gorgeous Scripts Wildlife Preserve With Random Soft Spots in Galena Forest

January 22 2022

Gorgeous sunrise this morning.

January 25 2022

Thomas and I went for an incredible walk in Script’s Wildlife Preserve this afternoon. It’s always beautiful! It was wonderful running into you, Barbara! And chatting for a bit with you and Bill.

January 31 2022

Thomas and I went for walk in Galena Forest. That was a workout. Hard, compacted snow with random soft, sinking spots, and slippery spots. Felt great, though. Came across a lovely, nearly flat snowman. 😂☃️😂 Got to try out my new snow boots. Vegan, barefoot/minimalist style. Love them! Wonderful walk.

Throwback Post: Sunset Adventures at Geiger Way Lookout

**THROWBACK POST**

August 12 2013:

Sunset adventures … Somewhere different tonight!

Lillian did NOT want to get out of the car or climb up the gigantic rock with stone steps and no rail. Talked her into it with Thomas holding her other hand. Uneven, slippery surfaces are difficult for her due to balance issues. She’s very proud of herself!

Go Lillian ….. and, WOW!!! Beautiful!
