Throwback Post: Sweetness and Kindness

After we got home from The Romano Casa tonight Thomas did all the things I usually do to get the camp-out-in-the-living-room set up (they get to camp out in the living room on the weekends).

Then he fluffed up two pillows on either end of the couch, went and got the bamboo plant out of the Reiki Oasis room and set it next to the couch. Told me to close my eyes and come lay on my tummy on the couch. Then he massaged my back with the car massager thingy!

I am infused daily with the sweetness and kindness of these two kids …. Blessed and grateful I get to be their Mom! After he got into bed he told me he knows why I’m so tired sometimes …. xoxo

Happy 16th Birthday to Thomas Darnell

On this day in 2005, the world was blessed with an amazing human. Thomas Arthur Darnell swam into the world during the hour of 9:00 PM PST.

I was blessed to live in an area that had an OB with midwives who built a Birthing Center attached to her offices. It also happened to be less than a 10 minute drive from our home. When contractions moved along, we met the midwife at The Birthing Center, she filled the large bathtub, I melted into the comfort of the water, and shortly after, Thomas joined us.

We were there for about 3 hours, and then back home in the comfort and coziness of our own home. This is a cherished memory, held close to my heart.

Dearest Thomas,

I know most parents say that having a child, being a parent has changed their life for the better. Even that their child has taught them the true meaning of unconditional love. I join other parents in embracing this message.

If one were to look at my life before you, and the years after you became a part of my life, one would see drastic changes. These are not mere words I say to fill the page of your day of birth message. They are truer than true.

You continue to open my eyes and heart to the true meaning of embracing all people, discarding archaic language and thoughts that serve to hurt others, and following one’s heart. Whether that following is a hearty “Yes”, or a solid “No. How liberating is that??!!

I am overflowing with joy that you joined our family on this day in 2005, deeply proud of you, and excitedly looking forward to your future. You are an amazing and wonderful person.
Thank you for being my son, Thomas.

Key lime cheesecake cups with lots of lovely gifts. 😋😋😋 The Romano Duo and Robert joined us, but I completely spaced on photos of them, or with them! Ugh!

Thank you to Grateful Gardens for the amazing raw, vegan cheesecake cups. They were perfect!

Thomas got t-shirts, posters, book of piano music, computer stand, a custom photo book, homemade card, and money. He is very happy with his gifts. 🎉❤️❤️❤️🎉 (He has a hard time smiling with the Herbst appliance in his mouth. Makes it difficult!)

Conversations with Thomas With a Live Performance

Conversations with Thomas … Any of the songs in Polar Express can be sung to any of the music in the movie. They’ll obviously sound different, but it works.

I asked him if he read that somewhere or if he figured it out. He figured it out on his own.
He also says it’s one of the most underrated movies: Tom Hanks playing 5 key characters, the computer animation was superior for its time, the soundtrack is great, and the message can be applied to more than just Santa. As it’s about how our thinking changes as we get older.

I’m just now sure what I’d do if I didn’t have this amazing person in my life to have conversations with. I don’t post as much about them as I did when he was young. Yet, just about every day, we have such meaningful, deep (or sometimes just plain fun) conversations, blessing me more than I know what to do with sometimes.

Thomas has been taking piano lessons since January 2021. Last night I was invited into his room for a performance to an audience of ONE … ME!

The song he played was less than a minute, and is from one of the online games that he loves. It warmed my heart, and brought much joy that he is finally comfortable enough to play for me. I’m so very proud of Thomas! xoxo

Oh happy day, oh library day, oh happy, happy day! We scored and there was a tech fair! Thomas got to see a homemade 3D printer and talk to the creator and work with Don of Reno Collective to learn to some Ruby coding! Oh what a happy boy!

Got to sub in Stillwater today. After reading the virtue card affirmation this morning, I had them repeat this with me 3 times. Usually there’s lots of chatter to accompany morning work period. However, this time it was interestingly completely quiet for almost the entire morning. WOW!

Team Member T and L got to have a sleep over at The Romano Casa tonight! They are getting ready to watch a movie now! Gonna miss my other team members tonight. Been a long time since we were apart on a Saturday night. However, I plan to thoroughly enjoy my time alone! And we will have our movie night tomorrow night! YAY!

Straight from the garden cucumbers, tomatoes and onions … Fresh peaches, nectarines, cherries and homemade fruit leather and even a special spicy fruit leather for Team Member C … Spicy Peach Chutney!! AND homemade raw tomato and herb juice (that will be so darn yummy in an adult beverage later this afternoon!!) You bless my heart to pieces Kimberly Phipps-Nichol!!! Thomas Darnell and Camilla October 2021 Date Day

We began with lunch. Huge vegan burrito for Thomas. Veggie sushi with miso soup for me.
Next was a window shopping trio. First, electronics store where to my absolute delight I found a Pac-Man game. That was fun! The entire store disappeared and I was back in the 80’s at the mall, in the arcade with my best friend, Lillie, in Houma, Louisiana. Cool!

Second, the pet store. Chameleons are my absolute favorite. They seem to have so much personality! Last, the book store. Always a joy being surrounded by books!

We ended the date with a wonderful walk, sharing lots of memories.
