Another Small Step to Independence – Lillian Darnell

One more task I have been relieved of helping with. It seems so small and trivial, yet, Lillian feels she must have a dab of peppermint oil rubbed under her nose before going to bed.

There have been many times I was incredibly tired and ready for bed long before she got to this step. Doing her routine and all the steps in order is vital to Lillian …. in her mind and way of thinking.

This was the last task I was helping with that kept me from going to bed when my body and mind were ready. Best, Best, Best Christmas present Ever!!

For about the past 6 months, on the 3rd of every month, Lillian chooses one task to take over that I’ve still been helping with. I was firm that for December, this was it!!! HA!!! Hallelujah ….

Discovery Museum – Remembering Times Gone By

Thank you Washoe County Library! Library card holders receive one free family pass per year. It’s set up sort of like checking out a book. Check out one pass a year!

Check out my tower! Ha! And the cool veins in my hand! And an upside down Lillian. Team TLC at the electrosketch and spotted Biggest Little Photographer in the gift shop and a hand full of itty bitty loves.

It’s been a year or two since we’ve been and it’s not as exciting for them as it was when they were younger. Yet, it was fun thinking about how much fun had been had on previous visits. Good stuff!!

They Were the Beginning of the Journey Within

I am not the same person I was before these two people came into my life. They have rocked my world, turned it upside down, inside out, shaken it up, (kinda makes me think of the hokey pokey song!!). They, each in their own way, have been a catalyst for my growth and learning.

She has taught me about acceptance of myself and others, compassion for others, letting go of judgmental thoughts, flexibility, and releasing expectations. He has taught me patience, not taking actions and comments of others personally, and simply keeps me on this learning journey with all his ups and downs. I am GRATEFUL beyond words for these two young people in my life, my 6 yr old son Thomas and 11 yr old daughter, Lillian.

They were the beginning of a journey that has definitely not been easy at times, a journey into facing fears, changing thought patterns for the better and continually learning so that I can be the best teacher to them that I can be and so that I model what I think is in their best interest. It’s been one heck of an adventure and I’m thankful to each of them for the change they began in me ….

Will You Please Help Lillian Get Back to Herself

Lillian had a melt down a few mornings ago complete with she’s moving out, she hates it here and calling Thomas and I idiots. Once she calmed down, she asked in a different, quiet, deep and more mellow voice, “Camilla, will you please help Lillian get back to herself”.

I said, “Absolutely!”, and asked how I could help? Then I helped her get dressed. Later I asked who it was that asked me to help get her back to herself. She told me her name, which I forgot, and said that she was a professional ballet dancer. I said that it was very kind of her friend to come along and help her get through that rough moment …

Lillian has these melt downs about 1 to 4 times per week. Usually it’s when we are getting ready to leave for school or anywhere else. She does not like to be rushed and reminded to complete the next step of getting ready. I choose to mostly ignore her unkind comments as I know that’s not the true Lillian.

The more I do not acknowledge the melt down and the more I remain calm the sooner she is able to bring herself back to the true Lillian. I am so truly grateful for all that this beautiful little soul has taught me about myself and life! xoxo

Another step done!! Bar code and graphic purchased and generated. There are a massive amount of steps to this entire process. Some of which can be skipped to get it done more quickly.

Yet, I prefer to take all of the same steps, fill out all the forms, and do as much as possible as if this was being published by one of the big dawgs! Loving Kindness Books may be a small team of three (Team TLC) but we sure don’t have to look like it! Onward!!! xoxo

Lillian and Camilla November 2017 Date Day

Lillian and Camilla November 2017 Date Day … on a rainy and really wet day.

Parmesan and sea salt fries for Lillian and vegan olive and artichoke pizza slice for me.

Then “window shopping” in the grocery store for all kinds of scrumptious foods. Lillian took pictures of all of them plus some great natural smelling hand made soaps.

Lillian picked out a cookie from the cookie bar and we headed home to enjoy it in the lodge while playing a fun game of go fish.

A turkey shaped cookie and peppermint dark chocolate bark for Lillian and a couple of lady fingers along with some hot chai tea for me. Lady fingers are yum, yum dipped in chai tea!! ☕️  xoxo

Pushing the Cart and Pulling Holds – Volunteering at the Library

There she is …. On our way to pull holds! She has taken over pushing the cart. Oh, and see the art gallery in the background? That’s where Team TLC will have our family art showing in spring 2018.

Thomas will have photos from Biggest Little Photographer, Lillian will have her artwork, and I’ll have perhaps my photos paired with poetry.
