Throwback Post: The Island Princess and the Prince by Lillian Darnell

**THROWBACK POST**

August 29 2013:

Found these two angels sitting next to the computer as I was turning the lights out for bed. Asked Lillian if she put them there and she told me yes and that they were giving her ideas! Turns out they indeed were …. (I think I may have some angel bears sitting next to my computer tomorrow!)

By Lillian

Long ago, there was a queen named Lila and had been wishing for a baby for 4 years now and she got her wish. She was so happy that she named the baby “Princess Lila 2”. But she had lost her daughter and she was very sad…

10 years later….

Lila had thought her name was Lil and she was surprised to see that she could talk to animals. Then one day a stranger named Frank who is actually King of where she used to live. He wanted her to come but her animal friends wanted her to stay. Then she remembered her name was Lila for short because her real name was Liliana. Then she met her mother then after they had reunited and then Frank and Lila got married and lived happily ever after.

Full of Imagination and Wonder – Where Would You Fly

And then there was this lovely surprise yesterday … Thank you to Helen of Pink Quill Books!! I appreciate YOU! xoxo

“My review for Where Would You Fly? & Other Magical Stories by Lillian Darnell, 5/5 stars.

The first line of the blurb for this book reads:

Welcome to the radiant imagination of Lillian Darnell, a wonderful and unique human being, the kind who comes around only once in every 56,000 births, as she is missing the short arm of her 18th chromosome.

I thought it was the perfect introduction to my review. Her stories are full of imagination and wonder, as you see the world through her eyes from age 4 (written with a little help from her mum, Camilla) to age 16. Some are gentle guides to mindfulness, others to how to be happy, and most are delightful stories with fairies, unicorns, and magic.

I have to admit I found the Emotions and Feelings part particularly touching, where Lillian explores her own emotions while growing up. Her condition, and her journey which led to the publication of this book, are explained in the introduction by Camilla, who is also a wonderful poet, and a beautiful person. Her dedication to Lillian, and her son Thomas, is evident through the stories Lillian has written and the love she has for her family.

Every now and then it’s lovely to get away from the real world and travel to distant lands with mythical beings. Lillian’s book is a wonderful distraction that you can dip into every now and then, and it will put a smile on your face. Many thanks to Camilla, Lillian and Thomas for the chance to read Where Would You Fly?”

A Lovely and Magical Book – Curled Up With a Good Book – Where Would You Fly

March 6 2020

Thank you to Michelle of Curled Up With a Good Book for the lovely review of Lillian’s book … We are deeply grateful!! xoxo

“This is a lovely and magical book, full of wonderful short stories where you can let your imagination drift and enter the unique world of Lillian. A collection of stories and poems written by Lillian throughout her life, will transport you to new enchanted and magical worlds, full of colour, rainbows and happy endings. The photos and drawings of Lillian are an added beautiful touch.

Personally my favourite bit about this book was the section on Emotions and Feelings. Camilla (Lillian’s Mum) explains at the beginning of the book that this section was born from them working together to understand and process emotions and from that, Lillian produced “Emotions with Animals”. There is a lot both children and adults alike can learn from this section and it really resonated with me, and how I try to live my life. Each mini story talks about a different animal and emotion, for example ‘Calm Monarch Butterflies’ and then there is Lillian’s summary of ‘How To’ (e.g How To Be Calm). There is some fantastic advice in this, and every single one of us could learn something!

Throughout the book there is a mix of short stories (fairies & princesses, legends, tales & adventures), poems and songs – each with their own unique tale to tell. This book is adorable and inspirational, and if nothing else will make you smile. We all love a wonderful and happy story, and Lillian certainly delivers this along with plenty of inspiration and a touch of magic ….”

Majestic and Magical Lake Tahoe

June 26 2019:

Lillian and I had planned on visiting the Incline Village library yesterday as she wanted to get movies for the long weekend with The Romano Duo (which started today)! Yay!!!! Respite for me started today through Saturday afternoon!!! Wahoooo!!!

We were delayed making our way up there as we had to make a quick run to the doctor for Lillian to have the redness underneath her eye checked. And to confirm it’s allergy related. (For those that don’t know the area, Incline Village and Lake Tahoe are a 30-40 minute drive from here.)

We finally arrived at the library 10 minutes before closing. Good thing we’re fast as we found about 10 movies and checked out with 1 minute to spare! Three years ago, leading up to the 2016 Chromosome 18 Conference, Lillian conquered her fear of using the stairs without my assistance. She wanted to revisit that fear before we left the library!! Yes!!! Go Lillian go!! 💥💥💥

I did not want to have driven all that way for only a 10 minute stop at the library. So we visited Kings Beach to bask in the sand, sky, trees, wind, waves, and the magical and majestic Lake Tahoe. She’s a beauty, isn’t she?

Love the wee bubbles of splashing water captured in the first photo! And what a wonderful photo of Lillian looking at the lake. The photos I’ve been posting don’t do her justice. So magical.

Walks of Cold and Walks of Warmth with Sun Shadows of Selfie Treasures

April 30 2019:

Sunset walk with Thomas yesterday. Beautiful. But. Brrrrr …. Cold!!

May 2 2019:

Lillian and I visited the Wilbur May Arboretum this afternoon. So incredibly peaceful. Such beauty. Squirrels, robins, butterflies … quiet … What a treasure …. 💜💜💜  Amazing shadows too. The sun posed beautifully!! Loads of fun playing with photographing the sun!

Every time I went to take a picture, the camera was reversed. I figured it must be trying to tell me something, so I took lots of selfies!! That’s the most solo selfies I’ve taken in a years time!! I’ve taken enough solo selfies to last the rest of the year! Ha! ….. We ran into a photographer looking for butterflies. She found us instead! And took a few photos of us! Ha!

The Flying Unicorns Create A Rainbow by Lillian Darnell

THE FLYING UNICORNS CREATE A RAINBOW

The unicorns weren’t always flying. One day one of the unicorns found a flying powder and they started flying! Shortly after they found a rainbow can in the sky. They painted rainbows in the sky.

But one day they couldn’t fly in the sky. Suddenly they found a clue and they were off to find their powers.

The people began wondering what happened to the unicorns. The delivery person had come out of nowhere and said that the unicorns lost their powers.

Some of the people began murmuring, “Terrible.” They decided to help them. When they got there, the unicorns explained everything.

They finally found the final clue along with their powers; as well as who put them there.

The unicorns discovered that it was the small creatures. After that, they showed no one their powers. They kept secret all the time.
