Team TLC and Earth Day 2018

April 22 2018:

We spent as much time outside as possible today to show our love to Mama Gaia. Lillian and I took a very slow and relaxing walk around the lake, had fun with our shadows, found some cool tree shadows, and picked up trash. Then headed home to eat lunch on the patio.

This afternoon we went to one of our favorite parks to read and throw the frisbee. And then home to the lodge patio and grills for grilling Thomas and Lillian’s dinner.

Queen of Earth by Lillian Darnell

April 23 2018:

Lillian Darnell’s Earth Day legend .. You HAVE got to read! The last paragraph just made my heart swoon … xoxo !!

Hey, everyone! On April 22nd which was Earth Day, I felt inspired to write a story about the Earth.

Once long ago, there lived a girl named Alana who loved to smell the Earth and talk to the Earth. Her parents were King Hendricks and Queen Dahlia. Her parents reigned the Earth together …..

Movie Night: Pollyanna

April 21 2018:

Team TLC movie night – Lillian’s choice: “Pollyanna” – Second time around as we watched it many years ago.

Lillian says, “Good, liked the music, my favorite characters are Aunt Polly and Pollyanna, 100% recommended, and I liked the moral of the story.”

I say, “I just love this movie. The power of one person and finding the good in others ….. Just Magical!”

Thomas says, “It was okay and I liked it.”

Book Musings: The House that Jane Built

April 21 2018:

The House That Jane Built – A Story About Jane Addams

Thomas and I were incredibly moved reading about an 1889 settlement home that Jane Addams founded in a run-down Chicago neighborhood, Hull House.

It was a place were people could find food, work, and community and included a playground, kindergarten, and a public bath. By 1907, Hull House included thirteen buildings and by the early 1920s, more than nine thousand people visited each week.

Jane Addams died in 1935 at 74. The programs at Hull House ran through 2012.

There’s much more to know about Addams; yet this book was specifically about Hull House. She spoke out against war and was a peace activist. She co-founded the Woman’s Peace Party.

The FBI kept a file on her, and she was called “the most dangerous woman in America.” In 1931, she became the first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She was a founding member of the NAACP and ACLU.

Vegan Open Faced Sloppy Joe and Mango Shadow and Open Faced Veggie Burger and Tomato Salad

April 16 2018:

Oh yum!!! Vegan open faced sloppy joe. This was incredibly good!

Crumbled falafel “meatballs” with sautéed sweet onions, cauliflower, green beans, sweet corn, petite green peas, tomato sauce, and veggie broth spooned in heaps on a piece of toast and sprinkled with arugula.

I didn’t set out to make this. It wasn’t until I was finished cooking and sat down to the eat that I realized what I had created! Yum!!!

Thomas and I had a beautiful walk this afternoon. I’ve had a couple of days of feeling a failure …. at everything.

I’m so incredibly blessed and grateful for nature and the time spent in nature alone, with Thomas, with Lillian, and all three of us together. xoxo
